It was with genuine shock and profound sadness that we learned recently of the sudden and unexpected passing of Noelle Baston. Noelle was a lovely, kind and gracious lady who along with her husband Pete has regularly supported The Raven Folk Club for decades. Some of us, have known them both since the 1980’s when we were based in The Grosvenor Rowing Club and many of you will have known them likewise as friends, as well as fellow folkies. Noelle was a regular floor-singer with a gentle, sensitive style of unaccompanied singing mainly of the songs of her native Ireland. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Pete and all her family at this sad time. She will be much missed. Noelle’s funeral will take place on Thursday 30th July at the church of Our Lady of The Rosary in Buckley, N. Wales at 10 am
Its been a busy week for Chris, Fluff, Nick and Wools. Last week Chris, Fluff and Wools headed off on Rolling Folk duties to the New Forest Folk Festival. A jewel of a festival which we would highly recommend. 5 days of top quality entertainment. Following on from that, Chris, Fluff, Nick and Wools went rubbing shoulders with all manner of 80s musicians at the BritFest festival at Ashley Hall in Altrincham with RadCo. From January we have made the decision to start charging a small entry fee of £2 on singers nights. This is instead of raising funds through a weekly raffle. Funds raised on singers nights help to subsidise ticket prices for guest nights, which we try to keep at or below £10, as well as covering essential expenditure such as replaceing equipment and insurance. Charging a small entry fee represents a fairer way to raise these funds. Many thanks as always for your continuing support.
