Feb 22nd - COBALT TALES
£8
Cobalt Tales - a Sheffield based duo comprising of singer-songwriters Nuala (bass, vocals, clarinet) and Pat (guitar, harmonica, vocals). Their amazing songs, which resonate with any audience, are beautifully delivered with warmth, fantastic harmonies and instrumentation. We were absolutely blown away by their performance at the West Coast Festival.
22nd March - North West Singer Songwriters
Four for the price of one
£8
This is going to be a truly special evening when we give you the opportunity to enjoy the music of four of our finest local singer-songwriters. (Selecting them was no easy matter, so blessed are we.) These are performers many of you will already know and love. Owen Chamberlain, An Croenen, Jude Edwin Scott and Ashley Fayth. All different, but all blessed with fabulous voices and an unerring ability to take an original idea and weave it into a musical masterpiece.
April 26th - Den MIller
£8
It's impossible not to like Den. He's a talented singer-songwriter and multi instrumentalist whose catchy choruses and intelligent lyrics are delivered with enthusiasm and glorious sense of humour. Even if you cannot recall his name, if you've ever heard his cheese based love song set in Morrisons, you'll know exactly who I'm talking about. This is definately one not to miss.
June 21st - Gus Glynn's Grasta
£8
Singer Songwriter, Gus Glynn brings Grasta (pronounced Graw shta) to launch their new album, Golden Light.
Grasta is made up of some musicians you will probably know. Ben Robertson on fiddle, Ian Jones on melodeon and flute and Mark Woolley on, well you know what he does.
Ben, Ian and Mark came onto the project as session musicians for Gus in Chris Lee's studio and sort of stayed. It should be a great night.
September 6th - Brian Peters
£10
Renowned nationally and internationally as one of the English folk scene’s most compelling singers and most versatile multi-instrumentalists…in short one of it’s greatest all-rounders. Brian Peters is a virtuoso of both the melodeon and the anglo-concertina, a fine guitarist and banjo player and one of the best ballad-singers in the land. He tackles his varied and extensive repertoire of songs and instrumentals with fiery commitment and wry humour. He’s also a great friend of the Raven Folk Club. It’s great to welcome him back!
October 4th - Time Bandits
£8
Celebrating a quarter-century of existence (that’s extraordinary, where did that go?) and with a new album to boot. Entitled Nonsuch it will undoubtedly available on the night from the band in person. One of the North-West’s absolutely finest ensembles performs two full sets at their home folk club. Katrina Turner, Jamie Matthews, Helen Delemos, Helen Armstrong, Ian Jones and Chris Lee are the proverbial musical ‘marriage made in Heaven’. Always a total pleasure to see and hear them.
November 8th - AJ Clarke & Dave Pegg
£10
Following up on his outstanding guest appearance last October (his first at The Raven), we are delighted to welcome back the wonderful Anthony John Clarke. An extraordinary singer, songwriter, guitarist, raconteur and humourist, AJC is joined on this occasion by a truly outstanding musical partner. Best known as the longest-serving bassist for Fairport Convention and for his 15-year tenure with Jethro Tull, Bass Guitar and Mandolin ace and Folk-Rock legend Dave Pegg. Together they are one of folk music’s most popular and beloved duos. This is a very special night indeed.
December 6th - Vikki Clayton
£10
Another very special return to The Raven. Vikki Clayton has sung and played with many of the biggest names in the British Folk-Rock pantheon including Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings, Ralph McTell and Gordon Giltrap, to name just a few from a long list. A superb singer and a fine interpreter of songs original, traditional and contemporary. She last played for us when we were based in The Grosvenor Rowing Club no less. She moved to live abroad for some years and so it’s a great pleasure to welcome her back. Not to be missed.
